My journey to finding financial, mental, physical and spiritual wellness.

The Road to Wellness…

It’s not going to be an easy one. However, they say things that are worth doing, are rarely easy. Who is “they” anyways?!

If you haven’t checked out the “about” section yet, let me introduce myself. My name is Dawn and I’m a sugaraholic. Mostly in the form of baked goods….and Coca-cola. Unfortunately, as I’ve aged (46.5 years to be exact), it’s taken a very big toll on my health.

On top of being addicted to sugar, I am a wife and a Mom of 3 beautiful children (3,6, and 7). I have also been doing some form of childcare my whole adult life. I went to school for Childcare straight out of HS. It was a year certification program and I went to work in a group center afterwards. I only lasted about 6 months before my Sister convinced me to follow her out East to be a nanny. I spent 12 years in CT, 10 of them with the same family before moving back to WI (where I was born and raised) and opening an in home childcare business. Other than 6 months during Covid, 4 months teaching preschoolers at a Christian school and another 6 months being a SAHM after we lost our sitter and I had to leave that job, I have spent 15 years doing in home daycare.

In those 15 years, I’ve had the absolute best families in my program. I’ve heard so many horror stories through the years of families that don’t pay or are always late or show no appreciation for their provider and I have to say, I have absolutely no clue what that’s like because mine have always been the opposite. 15 years though, of mostly working alone, in my house, day after day after day, has taken a huge toll on my wellness. Mostly physical but definitely some mental toll also. So, a few weeks ago, I took it to my husband and we made the really hard decision to close daycare down. It wasn’t an easy decision because, hello, major guilty feelings on my part and because, we can’t afford for me to actually be a SAHM; at least not without some major lifestyle changes that I personally would rather not have to make.

So, in a few short weeks, I will be closing this very long chapter in my life and moving on and this is where this blog will come in. I will be documenting my journey on this road to wellness. I will be focusing on my physical wellness the most, at least at first; but I will also be working on how to better my financial, mental and spiritual wellness. I hope that you will hit subscribe and join me on this journey. I would love to cheer you on in your own journey, whatever that may look like.

Cheers,

Dawn
